The artists duo Bounoure&Genevaux are a work and life pair based in the south of France, and they have developed an original work based on the fold and the cut in the color.
From a childish gesture like the one of folding little pieces of paper, are born large compositions of colored metal or mirrors, entitled “folded canvas”. The artists realize by themselves their works in large format, folded with four hands, working in an absolute synergetic harmony. Moreover, following the example of Matisse, they draw their colors and inspiration directly from Mediterranean landscapes.
Taking the carefully selected color palettes as a starting point, the shapes of the works act as delicate surfaces, with the shadow of the folding revealing the volumes composed in the light. Bounoure & Genevaux, at their first solo exhibition in Germany titled “COULEURS DU SUD”, will present colorful, giant wall sculptures. Small and medium-sized mirrored works will be on display in the back rooms.
Without a top or a bottom, with no sense of right or left, and accompanied by a room-perfume reminiscent of the scents of the South of France, Bounoure & Genevaux’s gigantic artworks serve as a portal to an all-encompassing experience, offering the viewer a sensory mini-escapade to the beautiful South of France.
Behind of each work are the design motives which the artists duo discovered, guided by the intuition. The works act as sensitive surfaces, the shadow of the folds being the revelation of the volumes assembled under the light. This new form of “pop minimalism” has been in high demand since their first exhibitions.
In their design as well in their gestural expressiveness, Bounoure&Genevaux are guided by their cultural background as architects, sensitive to the identity of landscapes.
Their large format artworks, whether designed for indoor or outdoor use, are made of durable and long-lasting materials. The couple, modern and loving, works in sync in their modern architecture workshop, facing the Mediterranean Sea.
Their talent has been hailed by critics and institutions: they first received the Art Prize from the city of Strasbourg for their solo show at the international fair of contemporary art in 2020, then they were invited by the magazine l’Officiel to exhibit in the Villa Galaxie in Cannes in 2021 during the Biennale de l’Estérel. In 2022 they obtained the patronage of Buesa with the support of Mécènes du Sud and the French Ministry of Culture.
Bounoure&Genevaux solo exhibition at the Luisa Catucci Gallery in November 2022 in Berlin, with the support of the Office of Plastic Arts of the French Institute of Germany and the Ministry of Culture, will present their latest creations in this context, monumental compositions and not, rich of the COULEURS DU SUD.
